Happy Monday, friends! I hope your weekend was a lovely one. It rained most of the weekend here in Southern California, which made me want to stay warm and cozy indoors. I had a chance to do some cleaning around the house, organize my planner, and revisit some of my goals and resolutions for the new year. This year, I'm focusing on starting my day off right. I've always believed that having a good morning sets up a wonderful rest of the day. Today, I'm sharing three easy steps (and my all time favorite breakfast recipe) to help you start your day off on the right foot, so that the rest of your day goes smoothly. Now, doesn't that sound wonderful for the new year?
Have you ever had one of those days where everything that can go wrong actually does? You wake up late, rush out the door, and forget to have breakfast, making you grouchy and miserable for the rest of the day. However, mornings don't always have to be rough. This year, I'm focusing on these three easy steps every morning to set the mood for a great rest of the day. These three steps will change your outlook on early mornings. You might even begin to look forward to mornings from now on.
1. First things first, wake up a few minutes early. Okay, I know what you're thinking, "You want me to wake up earlier than I'm supposed to? That's nuts!" Hear me out, waking up just a couple of minutes earlier than your wake up call allows your body to wake up naturally instead of waking up and getting up suddenly. I've always found that allowing my body a few extra minutes to wake up naturally makes me less groggy throughout the morning, which then has a positive effect on my mood for the rest of the day. Of course, I still use an alarm, but now I just set it to ring a few minutes earlier. You can use the extra minutes to meditate, pray, or even scroll through Instagram. Taking a few minutes to just be truly does make such a positive difference and sets the tone for the rest of your day.
2. Eat a healthy and balanced breakfast. This is hands down one of my favorite parts of the day. My mom always taught me that eating breakfast was the most important meal of the day and now that I'm older, I still do as my mom says. Eating a healthy and balanced breakfast in the morning sets you up for a successful day. For the past few years, I've always looked forward to my bowl of healthy oats made with Silk Almond Milk every morning. The toppings on my daily oatmeal bowl might vary from day to day but the base always stays the same. A couple of years ago, I made the switch from regular milk to Silk Almond Milk and I've never looked back. I've since cut down on dairy and love using more plant based products which helps me live a healthier and happier lifestyle. I very much enjoy the mildly nutty taste and the low calorie count of Silk Almond Milk too. Eating healthy and making sure that I feed my body all the nutrients it needs is a priority this new year. (I'm sharing my favorite recipe for an easy 3 ingredient oatmeal base that is filling and perfect for breakfast down below. Keep reading to find it.)
3. Plan out your day with a to-do list. I've always been the type of person that needs to visualize pretty much everything to function properly, hence the to-do list. Starting the day off with a to-do list every day helps me put things into perspective and prioritize the most important parts of my day. It allows me to be organized and have an expectation of what I'm supposed to accomplish for the next 12-16 hours. Taking a few minutes to plan out and list off my day sets me up for a success filled day, which makes me feel prepared and in turn, gives me a ready to take on the world mentality.
Not only do my mornings get better when I eat a yummy and healthy breakfast, my entire day does too. Here's the super easy, 3 ingredient recipe for my favorite bowl of oats that will make you feel full and give you all the good energy to tackle your day.
Oatmeal Base Recipe
1 cup almond milk
1/3 cup steel cut oatmeal
dash or two of cinnamon
Place all ingredients into a small saucepan on medium heat. Stir once to combine and let sit until it gets bubbly and hot. Place contents into a bowl and top with fruit or nuts of your choice.
Some of my favorite toppings include diced apples, almonds, walnuts, and of course, berries. I also like to accompany my oatmeal bowl with a cup of Silk dairy-free yogurt alternative. A healthy and filling breakfast is the perfect way to begin the day. I always stock up my fridge with Silk Almond Milk so that I never run out.
P.S. You can find Silk Almond Milk in the dairy aisle of your local Walmart, just above the regular milk, and Silk dairy-free yogurt alternative in the same dairy section on the yogurt side. I've provided photos below to make it easy for you to find these dairy-free products.
This year, the goal is to make the most of everyday, and with these three simple ways to start the day off right, I already know I'm headed in a great direction. Let me know if you apply these three simple steps to your morning routine and how they work out for you. Also, be sure to be on the lookout for Silk's new packaging coming out late-January, and pick up your Silk dairy-free milk and yogurt alternative from your local Walmart.
Happy Monday! Wishing you a wonderful and successful week ahead.
